The December meeting is always a good one. Festive warm feel to the meeting with fresh mince pies and Bakewell tarts on the table to enjoy (thank you Jeanette!), Christmas crackers with the obligatory rubbish joke and Christmas jumpers being shown off.
Now, the committee work hard organising all of this and the meeting throughout the year. All voluntarily as well. No one works harder than our President Caroline and as a token of our appreciation Fi presented Caroline with a festive Poinsettia as a thank you for another great Social Lites year. Good tights Caz!
This month members were asked to bring along Christmas gifts for the homeless as part of the Shoebox Appeal. Over 2,500 boxes have been donated & being distributed by Charities. Lee from the charity was overwhelmed by the 52 boxes & extra clothing & sleeping bags that we donated.
We were also collecting sanitary products for homeless women. This is a campaign organized by The Monthly Gift & Emma has kindly delivered your donations of 74 packs of sanitary towels & 42 packs of tampons to The Mustard Tree for distribution.
Throughout 2016 we will be collecting for the Stretford Food Bank, which also covers Urmston. A list of appropriate food will be sent out with the newsletter. All items should be provided in the box provided at the meeting. If you need more information on the Food Bank, please look at their website http://www.stretford.foodbank.org.uk.
Caroline welcomed the entertainment for the evening Laugh & Let Die who performed an interactive Murder Mystery.
A Twisted Christmas Carol with a wealth of characters for us to decide who killed Scrooge.
And a slightly creepy looking Ed Sheeran…
It’s the last meeting at Flixton House and a great meeting to sign off 2015 with. We are all looking forward to the new venue in January and an exciting calendar of meetings & clubs.
Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for 2016!
